Crude prices declined on Monday in sync with the equity markets and cooled off from their seven month high reached in previous session. The strength in dollar weighed on the prices, dollar rose on Monday, recovering earlier losses as traders cut bets the currency will weaken. But losses were limited as the market was earlier supported by a strike in France’s top oil port.

A strike at France's top oil port entered its eighth day on Monday, blocking dozens of oil tankers, trimming output at some refineries and boosting gasoline prices.

Benchmark crude for November delivery settled down 11 cents or 0.13 percent, at $81.47 a barrel, after trading in a range of $82.38 to $80.77 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. In London Brent crude futures fell 75 cents to $83.00 on the ICE.
