The markets closed with substantial losses with metal and infra sectors getting severe beating. The Sensex closed at 16890, down 269 points from its previous close, and the Nifty closed at 5117, down 88 points. The top Nifty gainers were Dr Reddy's Lab, Cipla and ONGC while the biggest losers were Maruti, JP Associates, Sesa Goa and Sterlite Industries.
