Nifty touches 6000; DLF, IDFC, HUL, Bharti up

Equities gained momentum and were near day’s highs as investors took position across the board even as the European markets were in the red.

At 2:20 pm, National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 6005.50, up 45.95 points or 0.77 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 6016.25 and low of 5951.20.

At 2:40 pm, the Sensex traded at 20,001.19, gaining 140.18 points or 0.71 per cent. The 30-share index touched a high of 20,048.26.

The BSE Midcap Index advanced 66.24 points or 0.82 per cent at 8,097.48 and BSE Smallcap Index added 116.73 points or 1.15 per cent to trade at 10,277.04.

Among sectors, Realty Index was higher by 2.28 per cent, BSE FMCG Index gained 1.56 per cent, Consumer Durables moved up 1.08 per cent.

DLF (4.92%), IDFC (4.48%) Hindustan Uniliever (3.31%), Bharti Airtel (3.22%) and Unitech (3.20%) were the top Nifty gainers.

Jindal Steel (-1.43%), Cairn India (-0.80%), Ambuja Cement (-0.55%), Tata Motors (-0.21%) and Jaiprakash Associates (-21%) were the top losers.

Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 2066 gainers against 1183 losers.

Meanwhile the European markets were in the red on economic recovery concerns. FTSE 100 was down 0.31 per cent, CAC 40 slipped 0.36 per cent and DAX moved 0.42 per cent lower.
