Market Summary

For the second consecutive day markets ended marginally in the red on the back of slide in late trade. Sensex lost 29 points to close at 18144 while Nifty finished at 5439, down 8 points. BSE Mid-cap and small-cap indices managed to outperform today as well, gaining 0.2% each. On weekly basis Sensex and Nifty have gained 1.5% and 1.3% respectively. BSE Consumer Durable and IT indices are the top gainer among the sectoral indices, putting on 3.2% and 3% respectively while Oil & Gas and Healthcare indices lost 0.5% and 0.1% over the week. European markets were trading higher by a third of a percent while US stock indices futures were flat awaiting important monthly non-farm payroll data.

BSE Consumer Durable and FMCG indices were the top gainers for the day among the sectoral indices, putting on 1% and 0.7% respectively while Bankex and IT index lost 0.6% and 0.5% respectively. Tata Motors surged 3.9%, becoming the top gainer among the Nifty stocks, followed by ABB, up 2.9%. Kotak Mahindra Bank and IDFC lost the most, down 1.5% each. BSE advance-decline ratio stood at 1:1.1
