Todays Trading session of the year 2012 ,the Indian market opened flat and remained within a tight range for most part of the day. In the last hour of todays trading session benchmark indices surged, aided by oil and gas. It and banks managed to close with modest gains.Sensex shut shop at 15517, up 63 points and Nifty at 4636, up 12 points from the previous close.
Shares of ICICI Bank, ONGC, TCS, Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki gained 1-1.8%. Coal India maintained its top position in the buying list, rising over 3%.
Index heavyweights Infosys, L&T, Bharti, Reliance Industries and SBI moved up 0.4-0.7%. Among others, Cipla, Tata Steel, JSPL, Sterlite and Tata Power were up around 0.5%.
